Brief Description
The Ontario Association of Library Technicians (OALT) Recognition Award, in partnership with Algonquin College, recognizes and honors outstanding library technician students for their academic excellence and involvement in extracurricular activities. This non-monetary award aims to support and encourage aspiring library professionals in their pursuit of knowledge and achievement.

The OALT Recognition Award is hosted by Algonquin College, one of the largest and highly reputable colleges in Canada. This award is open to library technician students at the diploma level. Eligible fields of study include Library and Information Science, Information Technology, and other related fields.

Each year, Algonquin College, in collaboration with OALT, awards one deserving library technician student with this recognition award.
Target Group
The OALT Recognition Award is open to students who are enrolled in a recognized library technician program in Ontario and are in their final year of study. Non-Canadian students with a valid study permit are also eligible to apply.
Scholarship Value/Inclusions
Although this award does not provide monetary benefits, it brings distinction and recognition to the recipient, showcasing their achievements to potential employers and peers. The recipient also receives a one-year membership to OALT and automatic nomination for OALT’s provincial recognition award.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for this award,
- Students must have excellent academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
- They must also demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities related to the library field and display a commitment to the ideals and values of OALT.

Application Instructions
Applications for the OALT Recognition Award can be submitted by the student or by a nominator. The application should include a resume, official transcripts, a personal statement, and at least two letters of recommendation. The personal statement should outline the applicant’s academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and future goals within the library profession.
