Brief Description

The Leadership for Africa program, financed by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), offers a fully-funded Master’s degree in Germany for high-achieving students from Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. The program aims to develop future leaders and professionals committed to sustainable development in their home countries.

The selected students will study at one of the participating German universities, including RWTH Aachen University, University of Bonn, and Technical University of Munich, among others.

Level/Field of Study

The scholarships are available for eligible Master’s degree programs in various fields, including engineering, natural sciences, economics, social and political sciences, and development cooperation.

Number of Awards

The program awards up to 120 scholarships per year, with an equal distribution among the participating countries.

Target Group

The scholarship program is open to highly qualified graduates from Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda, who have completed their Bachelor’s degrees within the last six years. Preference is given to applicants with at least two years of professional experience.

Scholarship Value/Inclusions

The program covers all costs related to the Master’s degree program, including tuition fees, health insurance, travel expenses, and a monthly stipend of €861. Additionally, students can apply for a family allowance and an annual research grant.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be citizens of Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, or Uganda and hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in one of these countries.

Application Instructions

Interested candidates can apply directly through the respective Master’s program’s online application portals at the participating universities. They must also submit a DAAD scholarship application and include their academic transcripts, CV, two letters of recommendation, and a motivation letter outlining their career goals and aspirations.
