Dr. James C. Waltz Endowed Scholarship

Brief Description

The Dr. James C. Waltz Endowed Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Dr. James C. Waltz, who served as Eastern Michigan University’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs from 1993 to 2000. It is a merit-based scholarship that provides financial assistance to undergraduate students majoring in the arts or sciences at EMU.

Number of Awards

The scholarship is awarded to one student annually.

Target Group

The Dr. James C. Waltz Endowed Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students at EMU, with preference given to students from underrepresented backgrounds such as first-generation college students, racial and ethnic minorities, and students from low-income families.

Scholarship Value/Inclusions

The scholarship provides a one-time award of $2,000 to be used towards tuition, fees, and other educational expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Dr. James C. Waltz Endowed Scholarship, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

1. Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at Eastern Michigan University.
2. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
3. Be majoring in one of the eligible fields mentioned above.
4. Demonstrate financial need.
5. Submit a personal statement outlining their academic and career goals and how the scholarship will help them achieve them.
6. Provide one letter of recommendation from a faculty member.

Application Instructions

To apply for the scholarship, interested students must submit the following by February 1st:

2. A personal statement.
3. A letter of recommendation.
